Best Beaches in Guanacaste, Costa Rica

Guanacaste is known as the “sunny side of Costa Rica”, due to the fact that is sunny most of the year. For those in search of sunny skies and sandy toes, here are some of the best beaches we prefer in Guanacaste.

This area really has it all, which is why it is so popular. Not only are the beaches some of the best in Costa Rica but they offer plenty of activities, ranging from snorkelling, diving safaris, kayaking, jet skiing, fishing, surfing and sailing.

Up first is Playa Conchal! This beach is one of Costa Rica’s most beautiful beaches, in our opinion. Not only does the beach offer some of the whitest sand you can find in the country, but its remote area has kept this section of the coast a hidden gem. Ideal for those travellers who are looking for a quiet beach to relax without the distraction of other visitors.

Playa Tamarindo is the go-to beach for beginners and mid level surfers. Come for a lesson or book a surf vacation. Schools and shops line the streets with surfers filling up the beach in hopes of catching the perfect wave.

Playas del Coco is one of Costa Rica’s most well-known beaches and it draws tons of local and international tourists each year. If you prefer more of a party scene and meeting new people, this is the place for you.

Playa Avellanas can not be missed if you LOVE surfing. With waves up to 18 feet, both intermediates and pros can happily surf here. It’s often referred to as Little Hawaii because of how good the surfing is at this beach regularly.

Playa Flamingo is a beautiful beach that provides a shallow area by the coast to wade in, waves to play in, and shady areas further back from the coast to cool off in. It is a long beach with lots of parking so it’s a perfect place to spread out and enjoy!

We could go on forever but lastly we’ll mention Playa Hermosa. This gorgeous beach offers crystal clear water and lush surroundings. A two-kilometer long grey sand beach, encircled by tropical forests and ridges of volcanic rock, Hermosa Beach is a great destination for all to enjoy.
