21 Dialects

Spanish is the official language and is spoken by 90% of the population. Since the Mayan civilization was first developed by the Maya the language has evolved into 21 dialects that can be heard today on a true Mayan encounter.

Coffee

By 1880, coffee accounted for 90% of Guatemala’s exports and even today, it’s one of their main exports and sources of income for the country. The coffee has a distinct flavor to it, typically full-bodied and has rich chocolate and cocoa flavors.

Lake Atitlan

Lake Atitlan is the deepest lake in all of Central America with a maximum depth of about 340 meters or 1,120 feet.

UNESCO

Antigua is a UNESCO World Heritage Center. Built 1,500 m above sea-level, in an earthquake-prone region, it was largely destroyed by an earthquake in 1773 but its principal monuments are still preserved as ruins.

Day 1

ARRIVAL IN ANTIGUA

Welcome Reception! Our driver will greet you at the airport and take you to the hotel where you’ll meet our trip leader and fellow travel buddies.

Day 2

ANTIGUA

Explore Antigua! Shop for vibrant textiles, wander the lively streets, or enjoy a coffee at a cute cafe.

Optional 2 hour hike of Volcan Pacaya.

Day 3

LAKE ATITLAN

Travel along the scenic route from Antigua to Panajachel. The drive is two hours long but the views are amazing!

Day 4

PANAJACHEL

Kayak on the lake, shop at a local women’s co-op, or visit a Temescal (a traditional Mayan sauna.) The day is yours to experience Panajachel.

Day 5

PANAJACHEL

Relax by the pool, wander the vibrant streets, or join in on a group activity. The choice is yours on our always flexible itinerary!

Day 6

GUATEMALA CITY

Travel back to the airport via private transfer. For those leaving later in the day, we can visit a local nearby market to grab any last minute handicrafts.
