Fun Facts About Horseshoe Bend
5 Million Years
Sculpted by the Colorado River, Horseshoe Bend is an amazing example of what happens when water takes the path of least resistance. Approximately 5 million years ago the Colorado Plateau abruptly uplifted forming this stunning natural bend.
Small Wonder
One of the Southwest's "small wonders," the emerald-green Colorado River makes a gigantic bend more than a thousand feet below the overlook, swinging first to the east, then curving back to the west. The bend is locally known as "King Bend."
Wagons
Experience the West with our special glamping accommodations in covered wagons! Each wagon sleeps 4 people with one king sized bed & twin bunk beds. They have heat & AC, & a small dining area with a table and coffee maker.
99 stories
Horseshoe bend resides 1,000 feet above the river's surface which is equivalent to a 99-story building. The formation was created over the course of millions of years and was caused by the continual flow of water through the canyon walls.
