A Storybook Christmas Market Tour Through Europe
Your Dream December Getaway — No Planning Required
Picture this: cobblestone streets lined with twinkling lights, the scent of roasted chestnuts in the air, and half-timbered villages transformed into winter wonderlands. If you’ve ever dreamed of a European Christmas market trip but felt overwhelmed by the planning—this is for you.
We designed our Christmas Markets Tour to take you through some of the most magical (and underrated!) holiday destinations in Europe. Think less crowds, more charm. Cozy boutique hotels. Scenic train rides. Wine, waffles, and warm-hearted traditions around every corner.
Here’s exactly where we’re going and why this 9-day journey is one you’ll never forget:
🎄 Heidelberg, Germany: Your Holiday Fairytale Begins
Our adventure kicks off in the romantic city of Heidelberg, with its hilltop castle and storybook Old Town. The Christmas market here is spread across several squares, each with its own character and charm. Sip mulled wine beneath the castle ruins and browse stalls full of handcrafted ornaments, wooden toys, and local treats like cinnamon-dusted almonds.
Don’t miss: the ice rink at Karlsplatz with views of the illuminated castle behind you.
💆♀️ Baden-Baden: Spa Town Meets Holiday Glow
Next, we head to Baden-Baden, a dreamy spa town nestled at the edge of the Black Forest. By winter, it’s wrapped in golden lights and festive garlands. The Christmas market here feels elegant and intimate—with gourmet food, handmade crafts, and an air of quiet luxury.
We’ll soak in the beauty (and maybe even a thermal bath) as we relax into the rhythm of the trip.
🕯 Strasbourg, France: Capital of Christmas
Strasbourg is the ultimate Christmas destination—it’s even called “Capitale de Noël.” With 300+ stalls spread across the historic town center, a giant sparkling tree, and canals winding through medieval half-timbered buildings, it feels like walking through a holiday movie set.
Fun fact: Strasbourg has hosted a Christmas market every year since 1570!
🏘 Colmar + Obernai: The Alsace You’ve Been Dreaming Of
One of the highlights of our trip? A private day trip to the postcard-perfect towns of Colmar and Obernai. Colmar looks like it was built for Christmas—pastel houses, fairy lights, and canals you can glide through on a small boat. It’s whimsical, authentic, and unbelievably photogenic.
Then it’s on to Obernai, a charming little Alsatian village that offers a quieter, more local market experience—perfect for sipping vin chaud and chatting with artisans.
✨ Basel, Switzerland: Festive Feels on the Rhine
Our next stop is Basel, Switzerland’s most festive city, where Christmas markets take over both Barfüsserplatz and Münsterplatz. You’ll find everything from traditional Swiss raclette to beautiful handmade candles, ornaments, and sweet pastries. All this set against a stunning medieval cityscape along the Rhine River.
This is the kind of place where every alley sparkles, and every square smells like cinnamon.
❄️ Zurich: Lights, Luxury, and the Perfect Ending
We end our tour in Zurich, where the holidays blend Swiss precision with serious sparkle. From the glittering tree at the train station to the “Singing Christmas Tree” in Werdmühleplatz, Zurich’s market scene is festive, elegant, and full of surprises.
It’s the perfect finale—shop, sip, or splurge before heading home filled with cheer.
